Mint is invasive and grows like wildfire. It also smells wonderful and tastes great with rum.
This afternoon while taking out the trash, the mint growing in our back alley caught my attention and inspired a solo afternoon happy hour featuring the fresh, green beverage: the mojito.
Obviously, mint is an essential mojito ingredient. The lime juice is equally essential.
sour, citrus-y lime + cool, fresh mint = pure refreshment.
I'm ashamed to admit that I don't own a cocktail shaker. However, I do have a plethora of mason jars. Mixologists may cringe, but I find that they work well and are fun to drink from. Here is how I made my afternoon mojito.
Suggecipe:
- a shot (or 2) of white rum
- lots of mint leaves, like 10+
- a whole lime
- a splash of simple syrup
- club soda
- ice
Put all of the ingredients into the mason jar and shake. Drink straight from the jar!
Happy Thirsty Thursday!
